I knew I should have left my mom's house when Parker started getting sleepy because I knew he'd take a long nap...I decided to let him nap before we left. We got to Cleveland before he started getting uncomfortable. I would hear a whine or two out of him every 5 or 10 minutes but when we got to Livingston he had had enough of being in the car and wanted me to know about it. Livingston is about 30 or 45 minutes away from Lufkin so as you can imagine, I was doing everything I could think of to get him to stop crying. I sang every song I could think of, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle, the raindrop song, ABCs...you get the picture. Nothing helped, I talked to him and told him we would be there as soon as we could and that he was going to get to see Daddy and GiGi and PawPaw...didn't phase him at all. I finally got a phone call from my Granny and I put her on speaker phone so Parker could hear her and VIOLA! Parker stopped crying! Of course it didn't last because Granny had to get off of the phone. So I drove until I got to Corrigan with a cranky crying kiddo and decided to call Daddy. I knew if Parker could talk to Michael he would stop crying. I called him, put the phone on speaker, locked it and gave it to Parker. It was AWESOME, for about 10 minutes he was happy and listening to Michael talk, he would occasionally add a da-da-da to the conversation, it was so sweet. I was starting to feel relief when I heard these words not spoken by Michael "The number cannot be completed as dialed, please hang up and try again." Oh crap...he unlocked the phone and was dialing numbers. So after trying and failing to get Parker to give me the phone back i just let it be. He started crying again when we got to Diboll but thank the Lord we were almost to GiGi and PawPaw's house.
I think I will plan the next trip home during nap time.
