What's on the Menu?

Not peanuts and not eggs.

So today we went to the allergist and after 3 hours of testing and waiting we finally had some answers. My baby is allergic to peanuts (which we knew) and EGGS. I was so shocked about that! I've been giving him eggs and products with eggs in them since he was 1 and maybe even before then.

We are going to be making many changes in our diet and hopefully with time Parker will out grow all of these allergies.

The appointment was long, it took 20 minutes for each test. The first test was done on Parker's back, the nurse drew dots and numbers down his back. After that she placed drops of each allergen (16 foods and 5 airborne) next to each dot. She then used small scalpel things to "scratch" his back. It looked more like poking to me. I was surprised that Parker didn't cry during this process but he was such a trooper!

After waiting for 20 minutes the doctor came in and looked at the spots. Of course the peanut looked like a huge mosquito bite and the egg looked the same, just not as big.

The second part of the test was worse. The nurse came in and gave him 6 shots of airborne allergens to sit under the skin. They looked like little bubbles, and Parker did cry this time...a lot. I felt terrible!

After another 20 minutes the doctor came in and looked at his arm and left. We waited a while for her to come back and explain and when she did it was a mix of relief and worry.

How are we going to feed our child while leaving egg out?! EVERYTHING HAS EGG! Right now we're trying to learn as much as we can and make adjustments. I know we can do it though!

So we're starting a new journey! If you have a child with allergies or have any knowledge in that area or even if you know some great egg and peanut free foods feel free to comment or email me!

  1. Don't freak out too much as allergies do change over the years. There are many products that you can make with egg substitutes. If I hear of anything good, I'll pass it along to you or Michael.
